Worms Digestive System

Worms look like they have a really simple system, but it is incredibly complicated. There are 7 things in there body that helps there digestive system work.

Earthworms swallow food through the mouth. A flap, called the prostomium under the mouth holds the worm’s food in.

The food (dirt) travels down the pharynx. It gets lubricated in mucus that makes it slimy and slick.

Then the slimy slick food goes to the esophagus. The food goes down the esophagus and while that's happening, it neutralizes the acid in the food.
The crop is a body part in the worms digestive system that acts like a storage area. Then the food gets mixed together.

Worms do not have teeth so the gizzard is there to crunch up, and grind them and mix the food. How it happens is the muscles of the gizzard breaks the food.

The biggest body part in the worms digestive system is the Intestine. The food goes through the worm and the intestine, and while goes the bacteria starts to break down the food.

The Earthworm ejects out the waste from the earthworm's anus as cast.

So the worms digestive system has 7 steps in their digestive system. It goes to the mouth, then it gets slimy by the pharynx, then goes down to the esophagus, after goes into the crop, later  the food goes to the gizzard, then the intestine, then gets ejected from the anus. Farmers also use earthworms, because the earthworms cast helps plants grow.
