Kiwi sport \

LI: To learn water safety and develop swimming methods.

Swimming is helpful for survival and in swimming lessons with James today, we did 4 different swimming tactics for survival.  They were:
  • Streamline
  • Streamline and roll for breath
  • Kicking on back
  • Breast stroke & survival stroke
Streamline
To do a swimming streamline, you need to put your hands together and put your arms up above your head. Try not to kick off to start. Kick your legs with your face down in the water and keep your arms straight forward while you kick.
Streamline and roll for breath
To do a streamline breath roll, you have to do a streamline, but after 6 kicks or 3 arm strokes you need to roll on your side and take a breath. We had to rotate our whole body to the side and not sway our head in the water.
Kick on back
We needed to float on our back and kick to the end. This is used for emergencies or people who struggle to use arms.
Breast stroke & Survival stroke
Lay on your back, and fold your legs to your chest, and push them out in a circled rotating form. Then scull your arms.

L.I to develop body movements of balance, rotation and strength.
This session is the last session for the term. For a start we had to do stretches. The stretches we did were: L shape, Seal, Butterfly, cat, straddle and back, front, side support. On each we had to push our self to feel the burn. We had to do each of them for 10 seconds and move on to the next one.

We had three rotation the first rotation had: going backwards on the beam, cartwheel on the box, cart wheel on the stage and forward roll on the bench. The second rotation had: star jumping off the trampoline, backwards roll down, 1 leg/scorpion hand stand and the half/180 jump. For the trampoline jump we had to get a high jump and move into a star shape position. For the 180 turn we had to jump on the spring ramp and turn half way.

The last rotation had: Hand stand against the wall, front support, parallel bars and back/side/front rotation. For the hand stand against the wall we have to hand stand putting one foot on the wall and the other stretching out and then switch. We then ended with telling the most difficult part of the challenges.

kiwi sport

For kiwi sport we are doing gymnastics. In gymnastics we were learning about the different stretches and what stretches do for us. Stretches help us loosen our body muscles. It makes the muscles relax which makes us more flexible. Some of the stretches are: Butterfly flaps, L stretch, front support, back support and more. We then had to do three circuits (which are like levels).
One thing i like and kiwi sport this week is when i was doing the back flip with my team meet.

LI: To identify the roles of Ki O Rahi.

What is Ki O Rahi?
Ki O Rahi is a traditional Maori Sport to stop disputes and violence between tribes back in the day. The story of Ki O Rahi.

Kioma Role
In Ki O Rahi there is two teams. One of the teams are called Kioma. The game first starts off with the Kioma team getting a kicker kicking the Ki to the Kaitiaki in Pawero, and if they do not catch it or not kick properly it is a handover and the taniwha team has to try score by throwing the Ki at the tupu, and to stop that the kaitiaki has to make sure the ki does not touch the tupu. If the Kaitiaki catches the Ki then they throw it out to their team members the kioma team out in Te Au. Kioma scores trys by touching as many Po and they have to try not get ripped by the taniwha team when they touch the po and to score in pawero through te roto.

Taniwha Role
One of the other team is called Taniwha. The Taniwha team has people in te roto the lake and try's to throw the ki at the tupu and the other teams kaitiaki needs to defend. The taniwha team needs to make sure Kioma does not get a try by ripping there tags.

Kiwi sport - The full game of ki o rahi

L.I to learn how to play the proper Ki o rahi game.

For Kiwi sport we player the proper version of ki o rahi. We had to apply all the learning we did to play the full game Ki O Rahi. We had two of the teams which are Taniwha and Kioma. Kioma wears yellow tags and Taniwha wears Red tags. This tested of how we will be playing next week and so that if we get picked for the Kioma or Taniwha team then we can play the role. When we finished the score was five to one and the Taniwha team lose   which is the team that i was in but we tried our best.

kiwi sport

In kiwi sport we first got into a little ripper rugby game and then we got into a passing drill which help a lot of us to pass back for the next ripper rugby game after that. We played a ripper rugby game and when someone ripped someones ripper then they had to pass back, but if someone doesn't get ripped then they could pass forward or back. Some people got confused and thought that you had to always pass to the back. In the first games when we got ripped then we could still pass forward. We learnt to call for the ball as in calling the person with the balls name.

Then three and four played against each other. Team four one 4 to 1. Then two and three played against each other. Team two won 5 to 3. Then team one and four played. Team four won 4 to 3. Then we packed up and team one had two wins and team two had two wins too, so team 1 and team 4 had a draw.

Kiwi spor

LI:Ls1 Had to learn the rules of rippa rugby and how to trick defenders.

kiwi sport

Today for Kiwi Sport we first started with rippa rush, during rippa rush we had to use the Skills Hamish taught us on our last session of Kiwi Sport, which was about side stepping. After that Hamish was talking to us about what we need to work on.Hamish numbered us in numbers no.1, no.2, no.3. Then we played a game sort of like Rippa rush but we had to get into 3 group one group was resting and the other 2 playing. One group was running and another group was defending. The running group had to run to the other siude of the court without getting ripped. If multiples people  get over an only a few got ripped then the team gets one point. The defending team had to try defend the other team to make them not go the other side so they had to make a plan. They had to try make a wall so the running team can find it hard to get to the other side. After that we played an actual rippa game. We had to use the wall skills so it is hard for the other team to score. We had to tap and pass. We stayed in our 3 groups when we were playing.
